Youth Welfare Programme

Migrant Help, Young Roots, Chilypep, Stockport Race Equality Partnership, TGP Cymru

The Youth Welfare Programme is a partnership of five organisations that provides vital support to young people seeking asylum in the UK. It was established following cross-sector research, following a series of suicides by young people in asylum accommodation, that identified this client group as especially vulnerable and in need of additional assistance. It aims to reduce isolation, improve wellbeing and guide these vulnerable people through the complexities of the UK’s asylum process.

Building on the initial pilots in 2020 in Birmingham and London, the Youth Welfare Programme is currently being delivered across three sites in Greater London (Brent, Croydon, King’s Cross), as well as in Sheffield, Stockport, Swansea and Cardiff.

The project is run by specialist partner organisations who are well established in supporting young, vulnerable people seeking asylum. The Youth Welfare Programme is set in a very specific contemporary context of heightened need for support for people aged 18 - 25, who tend to struggle to access existing services and lack a guiding compass required to successfully integrate into the next steps of life in the UK and thrive as new members of their communities.
