Turning Point
CHESS Homeless
Alongside the cost of living crisis, nationally we are also in the midst of a housing crisis. CHESS Homeless, who work with single homeless adults in Essex, have seen a rapid increase in the number of referrals to our service, rising from 15 to up to 50 per month. CHESS has more than doubled in size since the pandemic and has worked tirelessly to deliver better housing provision.
This year, CHESS Homeless opened its newest accommodation site, called Turning Point. This site will serve 24 local people and house them in DuoHaus modular homes on a landscaped site, with support and wellbeing services offered 24/7.
The Turning Point project was an ambitious undertaking for a small to medium charity with a turnover of £1.6m. It was a £3.1m development, fully funded through applications to trust funders, statutory bodies, individuals, and businesses. From the granting of planning consent, the project was delivered in just seven months.
