Sweet Chilli Parenting
Home-Start Central Lancashire
Developed by Home-Start Central Lancashire, Sweet Chilli Parenting® is an innovative trauma-informed parenting approach designed to address the growing gap between the challenges families face and the support traditionally available to them. Drawing on lived experience, family consultation, frontline practice and research into neuroscience, attachment, emotional regulation and adverse childhood experiences, the programme helps parents understand the science behind behaviour, relationships and resilience.
Rather than focusing solely on managing behaviour, Sweet Chilli Parenting® helps parents understand why behaviour occurs, how childhood experiences shape parenting, and how emotional regulation can transform family relationships. Complex concepts are translated into practical, accessible learning that parents can apply immediately within everyday family life.
Implemented alongside Home-Start's trusted home-visiting service and recently published as a nationally available parenting guide, the approach has evolved into a flexible and sustainable model that supports parents, carers and professionals alike.
The programme has delivered significant outcomes, including improved emotional regulation, stronger parent-child relationships and increased parental confidence. Schools, health professionals and children's social care teams continue to refer families after witnessing positive change. Sweet Chilli Parenting® is helping families break cycles of adversity, improve outcomes for children and demonstrate how relationship-based early intervention can create lasting change while reducing pressure on public services.
