World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts

The World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) and Norton, one of Gen’s trusted Cyber Safety brands, partnered to create Surf Smart, the first Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting cyber awareness and safety programme. The programme gives girls and young women the skills, awareness and confidence to navigate safely and positively online, learning how to protect themselves and speak out for others in our increasingly digital world.

Surf Smart includes a powerful advocacy component which empowers girls to run their own community action campaigns. This can include actions such as cascading their learning to the community by creating local resources to support children to stay safe online, amplifying the impact of the programme on girls and young women globally.

Surf Smart has developed a truly global footprint, reaching over 850,000 participants from over 100 countries since its inception. Since June 2024 alone, over 80,000 girls and young women have been reached by the programme across 21 countries, with 2,527 new volunteer Guiding leaders trained to deliver the curriculum, ensuring lasting, sustainable impact worldwide. Together we are raising a generation of internet-savvy girls and young women using the internet to make a positive change in the world.
