Support after every miscarriage
Tommy's
1 in 5 pregnancies end in miscarriage. UK women and birthing people who have had a miscarriage are not entitled to NHS post-miscarriage care or support until they go through three miscarriages. This causes trauma, distress, and anxiety and leaves them with no place to turn for information or support.
Tommy’s funds the National Centre for Miscarriage Research. The research team at the Centre developed an algorithm that can use factors from the woman's medical history to accurately predict their risk of miscarriage in a next pregnancy. This information is used in the clinics to guide the woman’s next steps and care. However, the clinics are limited in the number of people they can see.
That’s why, with funding from Poundland, our information and support team worked with the research team and our digital partners IMEC and Zoocha to make permanent a unique digital tool that would use this algorithm to make the information available to all women, give tailored information and advice based on their answers, and offer one-to-one midwife support to those found to be at highest risk.
As the biggest issues facing tool users are around mental health and physical health, we integrated a digital Wellbeing after Miscarriage programme of mental and physical post-miscarriage support for tool users at the same time, delivered through a progressive email user journey.
