Street Lifesavers

StreetDoctors

StreetDoctors is a national charity of young healthcare volunteers, training young people affected by violence how to save the life of someone who has been stabbed or knocked out.

Over the last year, the charity trained 16,571 young people as 'street doctors', equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to step forward in an emergency and give lifesaving first aid.

The peer training programme visited schools, youth clubs, and prisons to reach young people at risk of street violence in a year where young people losing their lives made weekly headlines.

Through a series of interactive sessions which were designed by young people, thousands of new street doctors learned to safely identify and approach the scene of an emergency, how to manage bleeding and unconsciousness without the need for specialist equipment, and how to keep someone alive until emergency services arrive. The programme also covers the mental health impact of violence, so young people can recognise and safely manage the most common impacts of violence on their emotional wellbeing.
