Space to Inspire
Scouts and UK Space Agency
By launching three brand new space badges and relaunching two others, the partnership aimed to engage at least 50,000 young people, inspiring future careers in space and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths). Fifty activities were developed, from growing plants with no soil, to controlling a space rover.
With support from real life astronauts Meganne Christian and Tim Peake, the partnership succeeded in inspiring young people to earn 108,000 space badges, with events at the Science Museum and National Space Centre. The Scouts would follow in the footsteps of the moonwalkers - 11 of the 12 people to walk on the moon were Scouts. In total, the partnership inspired over 269,854 engagement hours with young people of all ages in one year.
The partnership extended opportunities to Scouts of all backgrounds, offering a huge range of activities that were accessible to all. This inclusive approach meant no one missed out on the excitement, inspiration and opportunities of space. It equipped young people with valuable life skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, decision-making and teamwork.
