Sheila Lawrence

Jewish Care

Sheila Lawrence began volunteering over 20 years ago. She’s amazing and doesn’t realise what an important role she plays in so many people’s lives. We are so grateful for everything that she does. She comes to her volunteering role positive and lively. She makes everyone around her feel happy and cared for. Nothing comes in her way of volunteering her smile and can do attitude truly embodies the values of Jewish Care. Sheila and her family bring the Jewish and the Care to Jewish Care through their volunteering. We couldn’t do what we do without committed volunteers like Sheila.

She began volunteering at Jewish Care’s Brenner Stepney Jewish Community Centre, supporting older members of the Jewish East end community and also delivered Meals on Wheels to older, isolated people at home. When her husband became a resident at Jewish Care’s Lady Sarah Cohen House (now Stella & Harry Freedman House) 18 years ago, Sheila volunteered at the care home, providing company and serving meals to all the residents on his floor. Sheila got the whole family involved. When Sheila’s husband sadly passed away, she and her family promised him that they would continue to volunteer, and they certainly did.
