Scouts x HSBC UK - Building financial confidence for a new generation

The Scout Association

HSBC UK is Europe's second largest bank, while Scouts is the UK's biggest youth movement.

Together, we created a three year partnership to inspire better money skills for young people aged 6-10 years old. By launching the Money Skills Activity Badges, we increased financial confidence in a whole new generation. HSBC UK pledged £600,000 to support the partnership, which has helped us develop practical resources to be used by local volunteer leaders to support young people. So far, we've supported 73,000 young people, with 23 practical and hands on activities created to develop their confidence with money. The activities have been awarded the Financial Education Quality Mark from Young Money. In 2021 and 2022 a total of 73,000 Money Skills Badges were earned by young people. The partnership increased public understanding that Scouts offers a wide range of skills for life. The partnership also helped increase public perception of Scouts' relevance and trust: Scouts climbed 10 places in the YouGov Charity Brand Index. The positive publicity also contributed to the strong growth of Beavers and Cubs between 2021 and 2022. Youth membership grew by 16%, the largest single increase since 1942.
