Ruth Russell

Greenwich & Bexley Community Hospice

Ruth became Chair of GBCH’s Board of Trustees around the time when first reports of COVID-19 cases were emerging. No-one could have anticipated the challenges the Hospice would face to business continuity, spanning human resources and PPE shortages to increased demand for care and curtailed income generation capabilities. Through Ruth’s leadership and good governance that enabled oversight of the challenges, the Hospice not only responded effectively to the challenges, but was able to seize opportunities to strengthen the organisation and build foundations for the future. Good governance model included: • Governance review, skills audit and redesign • Ensuring business continuity • Supporting recovery and transformation Ruth achieved many successes during the year and delivered a Board structure that was fit for purpose and has adapted to new models of working. Working with the CEO on our recovery and transformation programme, Ruth is leading the Board through transformational changes in strategy, operations and culture, and future-proofing governance structures. Ruth brings a wealth of experience and is leading by example, fostering an environment where senior managers can take risks and opportunities, work together and grow. Her visionary leadership style has proved to be a source of inspiration for colleagues and peers alike.
