Project Giving Back

Project Giving Back (PGB) is a pioneering grant-making charity that has redefined how creative philanthropy can deliver impact. By funding show gardens for charities at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, PGB uses gardens as a powerful tool for awareness, engagement and long-term support.

Funded by two private philanthropists, PGB has supported 63 gardens for 63 different UK charities ranging from major national organisations including Mind, RNLI and Trussell to small regional charities like Down's Syndrome Scotland and Bat Conservation Trust. By bringing their stories to the heart of the world-famous event, charities have been able to increase awareness, fundraising and supporter engagement through access to global audiences, major donors and extensive media coverage.

PGB’s impact continues long beyond the show. Every garden is relocated to a permanent home in locations including community spaces, hospitals, schools and public sites across the UK, creating lasting social value, particularly in urban areas with limited access to green space.

The initiative has delivered measurable outcomes, including more than £20 million raised by participating charities, increased volunteer recruitment, direct beneficiary engagement and over 7,000 media articles between 2022-2025. It has also inspired other organisations and sponsors to support charitable gardens and helped embed relocation and legacy planning into RHS Chelsea.

RHS Chelsea in May 2026 marked the final year of the five year project, which has created a scalable model of philanthropy that continues to generate tangible benefits for charities and communities nationwide.
