Young Health Programme

Plan International UK and AstraZeneca

Since 2010, Plan International UK and AstraZeneca have partnered on the Young Health Programme (YHP), a unique global initiative focused on preventing non-communicable diseases (NCDs) among young people. Focused on health equity, the YHP in partnership with Plan International UK empowers young people in Brazil, Colombia, Egypt, Indonesia, Kenya, Thailand, UK and Vietnam to reduce their risk of NCD’s. This is implemented through peer education, where young people are trained to be healthy influencers to their peers and community.

With over £21million in support from AstraZeneca, the partnership is collaborative at every level. In 2024, 880 AstraZeneca employees volunteered their time to support the YHP. Initiatives like Girls’ Takeovers have enabled young women to step into leadership roles at AstraZeneca offices, amplifying youth voices and strengthening the partnership.

To date, the YHP, in partnership with Plan International UK, has directly reached 1.1 million young people and indirectly impacted over 62.5 million. It has led to increased clinic visits, improved access to family planning and greater awareness of mental health.

The YHP demonstrates how purpose-driven partnerships can deliver lasting, measurable impact in the communities Plan International serves, while advancing AstraZeneca’s global commitment to health equity.
