Peter Waddup

The Leprosy Mission

“The thing about Peter is that he genuinely cares – for the people we serve, supporters and staff alike. He is authentic and always goes the extra mile to make people feel valued”. 2020 was the most challenging year the charity sector has ever faced. The economy dived, affecting all channels of fundraising from Corporate to Individual. International charities were losing money fast, and smaller ones were closing. It was a year that demanded strategic, dynamic and caring leadership. Peter Waddup led The Leprosy Mission through to a record year of income and success, with 25% growth to £10 million in the last 12 months. How did this happen? Peter improved collaboration, strengthened relationships and sought innovation and excellence both internally and externally. Alongside this, during lockdown he ensured supporters were cared for and nurtured through personal email and telephone calls, many made by Peter himself. Peter championed inner wellbeing of his team, made tough decisions on furlough to ensure the best stewardship of funds. He also built relationships with people affected by leprosy and advocated for them on the global stage. He is a truly inspiring leader, encouraging excellence and setting an atmosphere of trust and support.
