Online advisory, genetic counselling and “blood tests by post” service to help people with genetic haemochromatosis live well during Covid-19 pandemic

In response to a five-fold increase in demand for help from people affected by genetic haemochromatosis during the CV19 pandemic, Haemochromatosis UK introduced an innovative online genetic counselling, support and health monitoring service, funded by public donations.

The charity recruited a specialist Advance Nurse Practitioner (ANP) working remotely part-time to provide online appointments to people with complex needs, which were being unmet by the NHS due to the pandemic. The service included a postal blood test monitoring, essential help people with GH manage and live well with the condition. This service was launched in September 2021 and has delivered over 250 specialist appointments with a net promoter score of 96%.
