North East Solidarity and Teaching (N.E.S.T)

North East Solidarity and Teaching (N.E.S.T) aims to educate and empower the forced migration communities in the North East of England and throughout the world, celebrating culture and diversity.

Provision includes free English language and grammar tuition to increase access to education and support routes into employment, complementing formal ESOL provision in the region and reducing barriers to access. Community integration through sports, social outings and arts based activities. N.E.S.T mobilises the student population of Newcastle University to catalyse change, making use of time, talent and energy of young people and creating dynamic, responsive programmes of support focused on meeting the needs of the local refugee and asylum seeking populations. N.E.S.T provides a sustainable solution to a societal need with a model equally beneficial to those volunteering as to the recipients of the support.
