North Devon Hospice

North Devon Hospice is a centre of excellence in palliative care, supporting over 2,000 people across our region last year alone. With over 200 staff and 500 volunteers, we deliver compassionate end-of-life care at home, in our Bedded Unit, and through outreach services, always placing patients and families at the heart of what we do.

This year, we’ve achieved transformational impact: we led a successful appeal raising £84,000 for a specialist cuddle bed, launched SafeCare—a pioneering national tool to optimise hospice staffing—and delivered specialist education to 492 healthcare professionals. We created clear career pathways, launched a certified care volunteer programme, and formed a new ambulance pathway to get patients to hospice care faster.

Our fundraising hit new heights, with a record-breaking Commando Challenge raising £110,000. We also innovated income by opening a secure dog-walking field, generating £1,000 in its first week. In schools, we engaged young people on death, dying, and career readiness.

Despite sector-wide pressures, we met rising demand with innovation and heart, never compromising our quality of care. North Devon Hospice continues to lead with courage, compassion and creativity, setting the standard for hospice care nationally—and changing lives every single day.
