Nick Bird

Solving Kids' Cancer UK

Nick Bird became involved in Solving Kids’ Cancer UK in 2009 when his youngest son, Adam, was diagnosed with high-risk neuroblastoma. Despite enormous efforts to save him, Adam sadly died in 2013. Since then Nick has dedicated his time and skillset as an advocate and champion to improving outcomes for other children and families affected by the childhood cancer neuroblastoma.

Nick joined the board of Solving Kids’ Cancer UK in 2016, becoming chair in 2018. He has guided the charity to where it is today, strengthening our infrastructure to ensure we can meet the needs of children both now and into the future and positioned SKC as a credible, accredited funder of clinical research. Nick’s leadership as Board Chair has helped the charity to successfully navigate through the pandemic, actively supporting the new CEO and wider team. He leads with compassion, tenacity and empathy, whilst remaining wholly focused on our vision for a future where no child dies of neuroblastoma or suffers due do the treatment they receive. It is an honour to work with Nick and we can’t think of a better way to celebrate his dedication to children and families than by making him Chair of the Year.
