Lucinda Johnson

Working Chance

Three years ago, Lucinda came to Working Chance as a beneficiary, seeking employment support after a conviction ended her career in childcare. Recognising her empathy and potential, an employment advisor encouraged her to apply for a role at the charity. She was hired as an employability coach and has since grown in confidence, taken on greater responsibilities, and is now also advocating directly with employers to help open doors for women with convictions.

Lucinda's lived experience gives her unique insight into the challenges her clients face, making her an invaluable source of support and inspiration. Clients speak highly of her, crediting her with boosting their confidence, improving their mental health, and helping them overcome fear around job searching. She has recently begun sharing her own story more publicly, including during Working Chance’s Black History Month campaign, encouraging other Black women leaving the justice system to believe in themselves.

Lucinda has a calm, caring nature and an ability to connect with both clients and employers, and her selfless dedication consistently goes above and beyond. Nominating Lucinda for this award recognises the distance she’s travelled and her contribution to the lives of people with convictions.
