Lightyear Foundation
Lightyear Foundation is the UK’s only disabled-led charity solely focused on making science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) inclusive for disabled and neurodivergent young people. Among more than 250 STEM outreach organisations nationally, we are the only one doing this work with this focus - powered by lived experience and driven by a commitment to equity, access and innovation.
2024 was a defining year. With a tiny team and modest income, we delivered immersive, co-designed STEM programmes to 909 children and young people. We trained professionals, influenced national policy, and launched a bold new five-year Strategic Plan - co-produced with young people, families, educators and scientists.
Our work is breaking new ground: from immersive sensory science experience and outreach work, to real-world STEM career trips, and from inclusive curriculum design to national advocacy, we are proving that disabled young people do not just belong in STEM - they can lead it.
