Life After Prison

Prison Radio Association

The Prison Radio Association is a charity that has revolutionised communications in the criminal justice sector, by developing broadcast media channels specifically to people in prison and after release.

We run National Prison Radio, the world’s first national radio station for people in prison. It broadcasts into the cells of over 80,000 people behind bars across England and Wales. It’s based behind the walls of HMP Brixton (a men’s prison in south London) and HMP Styal (a women’s prison near Manchester). In 2022 we launched Life After Prison – a brand new podcast targeted at those who have left prison, and the people who support loved-ones in prison. Challenged with encouraging this target audience to develop the podcast-listening habit, we recruited two brilliant new presenters who had both recently been to prison, developed a programme format that would engage that audience, and developed a marketing strategy to draw in new listeners.
