Kate Heaps

Greenwich & Bexley Community Hospice

Kate is an outstanding example of how an inspiring leader with clarity of vision can drive an organisation to achieve positive results. She empowers her team and inspires colleagues and peers alike to work innovatively and in collaboration, towards a common purpose.

In a year where we continued to face the challenges of the pandemic, Kate steered GBCH with compassion, foresight and focus setting strong foundations for the future. Kate is well respected by strategic partners and the hospice team for her commitment, foresight and empathy. Achievements include: Ensuring the continuity of high standards of care and support for increased numbers of patients. Securing GBCH’s financial viability at a time when only a quarter of hospices ended the year in a strong financial position*. GBCH is one of the few, as it embarks on its future plans. Laying strong foundations for post-Covid recovery, grasping opportunities to learn and drive change through a new hospice strategy. Initiating and coordinating an integrated partnership project that changes how Bexley Council supports its residents for the provision of social care. Winner of The Charity Retail Association’s Most Supportive Chief Executive Award. *(Source: Lessons from the Hospice Financial Sustainability Index part 1, Hospice UK)
