John Bird

John is a highly valued volunteer who has been delivering English classes to survivors of modern slavery and human trafficking for nearly a decade. He works with great sensitivity and care to tailor the English classes to the needs of those in the room, taking into account their existing skills and making sure the lessons are engaging for all his students.

His classes help survivors gain skills that will be invaluable in their future lives, not just the English language but also life skills in the UK and customs and values whilst celebrating the cultures of those in the room. He creates a safe environment for people who have often experienced severe trauma and is an important part of Migrant Help’s clients’ route to recovery.
