Hospitality Ending Homelessness

Social Bite and Mitchells & Butlers

Born during 2020 lockdowns with a simple ‘Pay It Forward’ Christmas campaign in Scottish venues, the partnership has grown year on year into one of the most ambitious charity–business collaborations in the UK hospitality sector. This is a transformational partnership between Mitchells & Butlers (M&B), one of the UK’s largest restaurant and pub groups, and Social Bite, a charity and social business tackling homelessness through jobs, food, homes and support.

In 2024, M&B took the partnership group wide across more than 1,700 venues, 50,000 colleagues and millions of guests, committing to raise £1.5m p.a. for three years. Brands including Toby Carvery, All Bar One and Browns united behind a shared mission to help people break the cycle of homelessness. M&B also provides strategic support, skills sharing, and leverages supplier gift in kind to accelerate Social Bite’s pioneering programmes nationwide.

Together, the partnership has delivered significant, measurable impact. The £1.75m raised in 25/26 has funded Social Bite Villages providing safe, dignified and innovative housing; over 161,000 Christmas and winter meals with wrap-around support in 327 communities across the UK; and to date 41 people from homeless backgrounds have been supported into sustainable, life changing employment in M&B venues.

In the last year, M&Bs have leveraged their resources, relationships and assets to bring Social Bite’s work into new geographies and scale up social impact programmes. This partnership combines Social Bite’s proven models and M&B’s scale, workforce, and customer reach to drive lasting social change at a local level on a national scale.
