Formed at the end of 2024 in response to rising pressure on urgent and emergency care, the Coalition brings together charities, professional bodies and patient organisations with a shared goal: to end corridor care.
Led by the Royal College of Nursing, the Coalition combines frontline and lived experience, research and national influence into a single, unified voice on an issue that had previously been addressed in isolation. Members shared evidence, aligned messaging and engaged policymakers, NHS leaders and the public to raise awareness and drive change.
In just over a year, the partnership helped shift corridor care from being viewed as an unavoidable consequence of pressure to a recognised patient safety and workforce concern. Its work has influenced national debate, media coverage and policy discussions, and contributed to a public commitment from the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care to end corridor care by the end of this Parliament. Progress has been reflected in increased engagement, improved data collection, wider media attention and clear changes in how the issue is discussed and addressed.
The Coalition shows how organisations working together can tackle complex challenges more effectively, amplifying voices and delivering impact that no single organisation could achieve alone.
