Centre 56 and Merseyrail

Centre 56 became one of Merseyrail’s chosen charities in January 2024 through its employee-led charity of the year programme. For over 50 years, Centre 56 has provided a safe haven for families in Kirkdale, offering specialist nursery care for children aged 2-12 who have experienced domestic abuse or crisis situations.

At any time, the nursery supports up to 60 children and their wider families. Through the Rainbow Room, families can access food, essentials, and clothing free of charge whenever needed. We also provide energy and food vouchers to ensure children grow up in warm homes with full fridges.

This partnership was established to raise awareness of Centre 56, which was once a women’s refuge and remained relatively unknown. Merseyrail’s reach as a major transport provider and employer has helped amplify the charity’s visibility.

Thanks to the partnership, Centre 56 has become a recognised name in the region, building lasting relationships with fundraisers and corporate supporters. This ongoing support ensures the charity continues its vital work, creating a brighter, more secure future for vulnerable families.
