Carey Mulligan and Marcus Mumford

War Child UK

Carey Mulligan and Marcus Mumford became ambassadors for War Child in 2014 after a connection made by Carey’s brother Owain serving in Afghanistan. Since then, Carey and Marcus have passionately supported War Child through fundraising initiatives, introductions to their networks, and advocacy support, raising £15 million and contributing towards a 500% increase in the number of children we support from 2014-2024. In the last year, Carey and Marcus visited our work in Uganda and Jerusalem. They hosted two fundraising dinners for War Child, speaking knowledgeably and personally about our work to donors and high-profile connections with these dinners raising over £2 million and earning a Vogue feature. Carey has fronted two fundraising campaigns: an auction bringing together her Doctor Who connections and a Saltburn t-shirt fundraising campaign which reached 9.5 million people on social media. Both Carey and Marcus used their external activities to speak publicly about our work – in press, podcasts and at events. Marcus is also using the current Mumford and Sons global tour to fundraise for us, with a projected income of £500,000. They have also supported our advocacy including promoting petitions, hosting screenings, meeting with influential figures, writing personally to politicians, and speaking on panels.
