Careers Specialists

Drive Forward Foundation

Care-experienced young people face significant barriers to work and are almost three times more likely to be NEET (not in education, employment or training) than their peers (40% vs 13%).

Drive Forward’s passionate, committed Careers Specialists provide intensive 1:1 support that empowers young people to overcome these barriers and move towards sustainable futures. Support combines careers guidance, CV and interview preparation, access to training and employment opportunities, mentoring and counselling. But it’s the relationship between young person and Career Specialist that makes the difference.

For many care-experienced young people, consistent support from a trusted adult has been absent and Careers Specialists often become the key stable figure in a young person’s life. This relational approach acts as a protective factor, enabling young people to re-engage with employment pathways and build a sense of purpose and belonging. It also allows Careers Specialists to tailor support and respond flexibly to changing needs and circumstances.

Between June 2025 – May 2026, our team of nine Careers Specialists supported 236 young people to achieve 327 employment, education or training outcomes. 77% completed or sustained outcomes for at least 13 weeks and reported increased confidence and motivation – critical for long-term success and independence.

Through employer engagement and contributing to policy and research, Careers Specialists help drive systemic change, improve access to opportunities for all care-experienced young people and promote inclusive employment practices – one opportunity at the time.

Their dedication, adaptability and commitment to going the extra mile make them a standout frontline team.
