Business Beats Cancer Edinburgh (BBCE)

Business Beats Cancer Edinburgh (BBCE) is an entirely volunteer-led fundraising board operating as part of Cancer Research UK. We have no paid staff, no operating budget and no office. We have a small group of working professionals – eight active board members and two ambassadors – who, between them, have raised over £900,000 for cancer research at the CRUK Scotland Centre in Edinburgh. Since the board was formed in 2018, we have turned two flagship events – an Annual Dinner attended by 350–400 of Edinburgh’s business leaders, and the Take On 7 Hills corporate challenge – into fixtures in the city’s business calendar. In the past year alone, we have raised approximately £235,000 across both events and a deliberately broadened partner programme, securing charity-partner positions at St James Quarter STYLE 2026 and The Marketing Society Star Awards. We’re proud to say, we’re on track to reach £1 million raised by the end of 2026. We are recognised inside CRUK as the highest-performing Business Beats Cancer board in the UK, contributing nearly a quarter (22%) of the £4.1m+ raised collectively across the entire national network from a single city. What sits behind the numbers is harder to capture: a group of CEOs, executives and senior professionals giving their evenings and weekends – selling tables, pitching businesses, writing speeches, lugging prize boxes, planning hill routes – while running their own organisations and, in several cases, navigating their own and their families’ cancer journeys. Every day, these volunteers turn personal pain into progress.
