Book Clubs in School

Media Trust

Book Clubs in Schools took part in Media Trust's Volunteer Films Programme, a scheme that matches volunteer directors with grassroot charities to produce powerful short films that spotlight important causes.

Book Clubs in Schools deliver interactive, inclusive and lively book clubs in primary and secondary schools helping pupils to develop character, communication, social and leadership skills. An important central strand to their work is that older pupils are responsible for running the book clubs for younger students, providing the book club leaders with vital organisational, facilitation and leadership skills and the motivation and means to give back. The charity wanted a film that showed how the activity they facilitate and the skills and values participants gain aren’t just about books, showing how they are distinct from other reading charities. Since its release, the film has created several significant opportunities for Book Clubs in Schools to raise understanding, awareness and support for their work, including a segment on BBC Radio London and a Smiley Charity Film Award for Best Charity Film - Bronze Award in the under £1m category.
