Billy Monger
Comic Relief
To support Red Nose Day 2025, Comic Relief recruited racing driver and presenter Billy Monger to take on the 2024 IRONMAN World Championships—one of the world’s toughest single-day endurance events, featuring a 2.4-mile swim, 180km cycle, and a full marathon. After becoming a double-leg amputee in 2017 following a near fatal crash, Billy was motivated to take on the challenge by the support he received in the wake of his own accident and the urgent need for Comic Relief’s help across the country following the cost-of-living crisis. He trained over 20 hours a week for an entire year, transforming his lifestyle to meet the demands of the challenge. Billy completed the race in 14 hours and 23 minutes, smashing the record for a double-leg amputee by over two hours. His journey was featured in a BBC One documentary watched by over 1.5 million people, and he played a crucial part in the Red Nose Day 2025 campaign through media appearances, social media, school engagement, and helping Comic Relief build key partnerships. His incredible effort raised £1.5 million and inspired people around the world making him not just a remarkable fundraiser but a true role model.
