Acceptance and Commitment Education Programme

Cardiomyopathy UK

This is the first Acceptance and Commitment Education programme developed specifically for the cardiomyopathy community. It was created in direct response to what our community has consistently told us: there is a serious lack of access to meaningful mental health support following diagnosis. Many people are left to cope alone on long waiting lists, during which mental health can deteriorate rapidly—sometimes leading to crisis. We identified this urgent need through our national annual survey, focus groups, and dedicated research into wellbeing.

Developed in partnership with experienced specialist health psychologists, this pioneering, fully funded 6-week online programme supports people living with cardiomyopathy to navigate the emotional and psychological challenges they face. Participants receive either individual or group sessions, delivered by specialist Health Psychologists and trained, supervised practitioners.

The ACE model is evidence-based and offers practical, values-led skills such as mindfulness, emotional acceptance, and committed action. These tools help participants build resilience, improve self-care, and enhance their quality of life—empowering them to live meaningfully despite their condition.

This tailored programme is the first of its kind and has been adapted to meet the specific needs of our community. It sets a new benchmark for psychological care in cardiomyopathy patients.
