The SOS campaign highlighted the plight of the national network of specialist domestic violence refuges, raising awareness of the funding crisis and the vital need for refuges - both amongst the public and within Government. SOS called for immediate action. The SOS petition collected almost 40,000 signatures and was handed into Downing St during a candle-lit vigil attended by 150 former refuge residents and workers from across the UK. As a direct result of SOS, the Government announced a £10 million fund for refuges on 25th November 2014. This saved some refuges from closure and increased bedspaces, therefore saving lives.
