Sarah Earl

Sidcup Gingerbread Group

We currently have a network of 112 single mums and dads volunteering to run a local Gingerbread group. We’d like to take this opportunity to celebrate the work of one of our volunteers, Sarah Earl who runs Sidcup Gingerbread group at the New Generation Centre, Sidcup, part of the Sure Start Children’s Centre network.

Sarah’s volunteering to run Sidcup Gingerbread has been instrumental in changing the lives of single parents and their families living in the local area.

There are two million single parents in Britain today – that’s one in four families with children. Less than half of single parents receive money from their child’s other parent, and children in single parent families are twice as likely as children in couple families to live in poverty.

Our Gingerbread peer support groups address the issues of isolation, low confidence, poor resilience and limited access to appropriate support experienced by single parents. Run by single parent volunteers, they’re a space for local single mums and dads to support each other and share the highs and lows of parenting.

Gingerbread is the leading charity working with single parent families. Supporting, advising and campaigning with single parents to help them meet their family’s needs.
