Rebecca Adlington

Encephalitis Society

When Rebecca Adlington’s sister Laura was diagnosed with encephalitis which is brain inflammation, it was a terrifying time for the whole family. They were supported by the Encephalitis Society during Laura’s journey and Rebecca did not forget the support and comfort this brought her family at what was a difficult time.
Following Rebecca’s double gold medal winning performance at the Beijing Olympics in 2008, she decided to use her growing popularity to repay the Encephalitis Society.
She said at the time: “I’m pleased that my success in the swimming pool will enable me to increase the understanding of the disease and make sure that other families don’t have to go through the experience we had.”
Rebecca’s been part of our family for 10 years now and has donated large amounts of money, given gifts, been tremendously generous with her time and her contacts and has genuinely become part of the charity.
Rebecca is the epitome of a true ambassador – passionate about our charity, enthusiastic and generous and we are very grateful to her for her support.
