When century-old Alexandra Rose Charity (ARC) sought a new, modern, hands-on mission, it turned to Jonathan to develop its new focus - tackling food poverty and promoting healthy eating.
Jonathan’s passion and expertise honed from experience at the nexus of food, health, social justice and sustainability was instrumental in developing the Rose Vouchers for Fruit & Veg Project.
Under Jonathan’s leadership, ARC developed an innovative and effective retail response to combating childhood obesity, dietary related ill health and food poverty. The project currently helps almost 300 families in four local authorities (Lambeth, Hackney, Hammersmith & Fulham and Barnsley) and work is underway to expand the project geographically and use technology to increase its efficiency.
Jonathan spearheaded a systematic approach to securing critical project funding from the likes of Esmee Fairbairn, Comic Relief and The Big Lottery. He also worked with the existing trustees to reinvigorate the board with diverse and enthusiastic new talent to prepare the charity for rapid growth. These strategic decisions afforded him the opportunity to invest in building ARC’s profile, forge closer relationships with ARC’s partners and concentrate on process improvements.
ARC’s progress since Jonathan’s appointment is a testament to the magic he has created with limited resources.
