Deborah Alsina MBE is an excellent candidate for the Third Sector Excellence Awards CEO of the Year.
Eight years ago Bowel Cancer UK was facing enormous challenges on almost every front (financially, strategically and operationally) with closure being a real possibility. Throughout this time, Deborah has worked tirelessly to turn the charity around, building strong foundations for continued development in the future.
Under her leadership the charity is now developing a ground-breaking programme of research, and the charity’s annual income is growing quickly and now stands at its highest ever level (£2.3m), representing a 33% increase in the last two years alone.
Deborah is a true inspiration to everyone with whom she comes into contact. She is resolute in putting patients and their families first at all times and takes great time and energy to build personal relationships at often very difficult times for the individuals concerned.
Deborah was awarded an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours 2016 for her services to bowel cancer. Nominated by patients and their families for her commitment to the charity and passion for the cause, this speaks volumes about how highly they think of her and her role as CEO of Bowel Cancer UK.
