Working Chance is an award-winning charity and the UK’s only specialist recruitment consultancy for women with criminal convictions. Since 2008, we’ve successfully made over 1,350 job placements and enabled hundreds of women to turn their lives around and support themselves and their families.
In September 2015, Working Chance began a new pilot of supporting young women leaving care into work – in response to the “care-to-prison pipeline”. Less than 1% of all children in England are in care, yet 1 in 3 women in prison have spent time in the care system – as have 61% of girls aged 15-18 in custody. Young women leaving care are at a higher risk of coming into contact with the criminal justice system.
In the past year, Working Chance’s innovative, preventative pilot of putting a halt to this damaging pipeline has come to fruition and had a real impact on the lives and livelihoods of young women leaving care.
In the first two years of this pilot, our small but dedicated team has successfully placed over 40 young women care leavers into quality, sustainable employment and supported these young women at every step of their journey to begin a career in which they can thrive.
