Diabetes UK

There are currently 135 diabetes-related amputations in England each week – a devastating and costly issue that previously had little public awareness or media attention. Diabetes UK decided to push this issue much higher up the public, health and political agenda. As a result of our campaigning work, improving foot care for people with diabetes has now been identified as a specific priority by NHS England as part of the NHS mandate objective to achieve a measurable reduction in variation in the management and care of people with diabetes by 2020.

We significantly raised levels of awareness nationally, and locally, around diabetes amputations and the issue is now on the agenda of decision makers with clear actions nationally and locally to improve care as a result.
